Catch up--Tour de Cure

Another event that happened this summer that was quite significant was the Tour de Cure. It was a big 100 mile bike ride up in Logan that Lamon and some friends from work did together. They each had to get $250.oo in donations to enter the race, and in turn they got some sweet biking clothes the day of the race.

Lamon said it was pretty hard, but they had such a blast! The wind was in their faces the entire time.

Memorial Day

Basically I have neglected to blog about any of our trips/adventures etc. this summer, so. . . I am going to do it.Many of the trips we take are spontaneous or spur of the moment, and that is definitely the case with our trip on Memorial Day. Days before we went Sue mentioned that she was thinking that it would be fun to take a quick one night/two day trip to Colorado to visit Grandma and Grandpa Barksdale and Grandma Crandall's graves and also to visit a National Park and a National Monument as well. Lamon didn't have to work until Wednesday, so we decided, "Hey, that sounds like fun!!" So we came too.

Colorado Monument

The last place we hit before we headed home was the Colorado Monument. As we were driving through it we were absolutely amazed at how spectacular it was. We were all wondering why in the world it wasn't a National Park. We asked someone at the visitor's center, and they said it had a lot to do with politics. It isn't quite big enough to be a National Park and extending the borders would make certain people quite irate. Anyhow it was awesome!

Black Canyon of the Gunnison

On Memorial Day we headed to The Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It just became a National Park in 1999. It was breathtaking! They call it the little brother to the Grand Canyon. We went to a bunch of outlooks, and we drove down this really steep road to the bottom of the canyon and spent some time at the river. While we were there taking pictures some people came up to us and said, "Just so you know . . . there is a bear right over there." It didn't take us long to usher the children to the car. But then of course being unsmart like we are, we took turns getting out of the car and taking a look. It was a baby bear, and it was up in a tree. We are quite lucky that the Mother bear didn't decide to make her presence known while we were observing the cub!

Answers from Drew (The Artist) about the World Spinning

Drew: "Mom, why does the world spin . . . but we aren't spinning?"
Mom: (knowing I should know the answer to this question, but nothing coming) Silence.
Drew: "Oh I think I know. The outside of the Earth is spinning, but the inside is not."
Mom: (Still searching my brain for any sort of knowledge on the subject) Silence.
Drew: "You want to know how I knew that? I know that because . . . I'm an Artist!"

Oh to be 6 . . . an artist . . . and to know the answers to everything!

My little T-Ball Star!!

Oh how I love T-Ball Season. It really is a very inexpensive way to enjoy many hours of great entertainment! I have loved watching my little Drew play.

I don't know that he is going to be the next Babe Ruth . . . but he sure has had a fun time. Here are some of my favorite things from watching Drew play T-Ball this year.
1. Watching Drew strike up conversations with the other teams players as he makes it around the bases.
2. Watching Drew daydreaming in the outfield while his teammates and coaches yell, "Drew, pay attention!" while balls roll pass him.
3. Listening to Drew, who probably thought it was just part of the game, yell "Pay attention!" to all the rest of his teammates who actually do pay attention.
4. Seeing Drew slide into home . . . on accident.
5. Seeing Drew hit the ball. He was pretty good at hitting the ball!!!
6. The best part was seeing my confident boy . . . make it around the bases feeling proud of himself, not being able to wait to come give me a hug and receive praise for his sweet talents!!

Drew I love you!!! I totally think you are a T-Ball star!!!!

Drew is funny too!!!

Usually I am posting funny things that Ada or Hayden are saying, but my oldest boy can say some pretty funny things too! He is as funny as the rest of them.

Yesterday I was cleaning and Drew was playing with the hose outside with Ada. He decided to come in and get his swimming suit on. He was a little frustrated because he couldn't find it. He started nagging me, asking where it was. I was a bit busy and I turned and called out, "I don't know off the top of my head."

Drew yells back completely serious, "You don't know if it's on top of your head?"

Yep, he is a funny one, and I laugh every time I think about his reply!
